Let's Glow Have Fun

News Flash --- We are now entering the second half of 2014! YIkes!  it's already July! Hot, humid days are definitely here. It's also a time of plentiful crops, farmers working overtime, and time for staycations here in the Pennyrile region. There's an old saying, "Time flies when you're having fun." Have you made time for fun this year?  July is a great month to plan some. Summer days growing up in Hopkinsville on Skyline Drive remind me of swimming at the Skyline Country Club pool, roller skating at the Skyline Roller Rink and just hanging out at night catching lightening bugs!

July is also National Parks and Recreation Month. I think you'll agree...parks are a great place to have fun. We are blessed to live in a beautiful area of the country with two great State Parks just minutes away. Our Chamber members, Lake Barkley State Resort Park and Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, have lots of fun activities scheduled this summer. On July 4th, there's a fireworks show at Lake Barkley....we hear it's one of the best firework displays in Western Kentucky. A beach party is planned at Pennyrile Forest with a sidewalk art contest, music, tie-dyed shirts, and sand sculptures. Also, the Convention and Visitor's Bureau has a list of fun activities scheduled this summer that you can find on their website at www.visithopkinsville.com.

A fun night-time activity is planned for July 12 with the YMCA's "Light Your Night" 5K Glow Run to support several Fort Campbell organizations. On July 31, we are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Cornerstone Information Systems with a Business After Hours celebration at 801 MAIN. We hope you can join us and blend fun and business while meeting the Cornerstone team as we help them celebrate this milestone.

Oh, and one last thing...thank a veteran this Friday for helping to preserve our freedoms.  Happy Fourth of July, and be safe on the roads!
